[WardFive] We're changing from Annual Symposium to Annual Eagle Fest Re: Interested in making GNYAGG symposium a success? Meeting Thurs, March 19th at 7:30, Lamond Riggs Library

GNYAGG is agile; therefore, we are making some changes to our April 25th event to better serve stakeholders and drive the mission--Enhance, Protect, and Promote the Greater New York Avenue Gateway Corridor to ensure sustainable, economic, and community development that matters.  And to create an even better place to live, work, eat, shop, do business, invest, raise families, and enjoy and an arts, STEM/STEAM, cultural, family entertainment, media, creative economy district.

Rather than hosting an Annual Symposium, we're shifting gears and transforming our planned event to an annual Eagle Fest.  We've gotten our inspiration from the eagles that recently nested at the National Arboretum's .  Not since 1947 have there been eagles nesting at the Aboretum, which is a major tourist attraction in the Greater New York Avenue Gateway Corridor.

This Eagle Fest will provide an opportunity to Mingle, Learn, and Elevate.  We'll not only talk about what is but what could be.  We'll continue to work together to build and implement a vision for the Corridor.  Working together, we'll help brand the Corridor.  Maybe the area will be Eagle Metropolis or Destiny Streetcar.

Anyway, we'll still have great speakers and moderator at Eagle Fest.  We'll have a great time in a relaxed setting gathering around tables with friends, neighbors, associates, and new acquaintances to offer ideas, solutions, wants, and needs for the Corridor. We'll gain insights on how to make things happen via stakeholder engagement and advocacy.  We'll talk about the impact of a clean Anacostia and we'll develop strategies and action plans to get the kind of housing and businesses that citizens, government, and businesses want in the area.  The event is free and open to the public.  On top of all this, we're working on a tour of the corridor.

Stay tuned for updates at gnyagg.eventbrite.com.

Bald Eagle Eggs In Washington May Have Already Hatched Says National Arboretum

You can never have too many bald eagles so it's always good news to hear about additions to their population. This time, a few eaglets are expected to have been added from a nest at the National Arboretum.

For the first time since 1947, bald eagles are nesting in the U.S. National Arboretum, and they may have just welcomed eaglets despite all that snow and cold.
Officials were tracking a pair for the last few months and discovered that the birds have built a nest on a property. And with the belief that the nest had eggs, it is also right about time to expect bald eagle hatchlings. There are no cameras on the nest so officials can't be sure but judging by the behavior of the parents, eaglets are highly likely.

Subject: Interested in making GNYAGG symposium a success? Meeting Thurs, March 19th at 7:30, Lamond Riggs Library

The Greater New York Avenue Gateway Group continues to plan its April 25th symposium, "The Rise of the Greater New York Avenue Gateway Corridor: A Jewel on the Potomac".

If you want to help plan this event, then join GNYAGG on Thursday, March 19th for one hour--7:30 PM to 8:30 PM--at Lamond Riggs Library, 5401 South Dakota Avenue, N.E.

We're stepping out of the Corridor for a minute and expanding our outreach.  We're taking a collaborative approach to the symposium and working to bring community, business, and government together.

Why are the Corridor and the symposium of interest?

Well, New York Avenue, NE is a major thoroughfare connecting Baltimore Washington Parkway and US 50 as well as communities in the city. It connects commuters/visitors from Annapolis as well as New York. It is a street that should scream "the Nation's Capital".

With Costco in Ft. Lincoln and the Hecht's Warehouse in Ivy City, interest in New York Avenue and vicinity is taking off. Stakeholders/interested parties/citizens need to be in the equation to make sure that the area becomes all that you want it to be and to ensure that it becomes an inclusive (age friendly and economically/culturally diverse), sustainable, vibrant, signature family-friendly area with attractive streetscape adorned with trees, public places, and art.

It's time to build on the foundation of the area and make it an even better place to work, live, eat, shop, invest, learn, visit, do business, and enjoy.

Additionally, the Anacostia River is in focus now. Let's join forces to improve the River and the surrounding environment while making sure that improvements in the area don't raise the cost of living too high.

The symposium will touch subjects like housing, transportation, creative economy, small business. economic development, and more. And there will be a discussion about advocacy to get what you want and make things happen.

GNYAGG is designed to drive solutions, innovation, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement to make a difference in the Corridor. It works to enhance, protect, and promote the accessibility, livability, quality of life, appeal, attractiveness, and economic vitality of the Corridor.

The boundaries for the Corridor have been defined by GNYAGG based on studies and other materials. The Greater New York Avenue Gateway Corridor is bounded by the Maryland/District of Columbia border (includes Eastern Avenue, Anacostia River, Rhode Island Avenue, North Capitol Street, H Street, and Benning Road. The full span of New York Avenue in Northeast Washington is included along with communities in the vicinity.

The Corridor includes streets, in addition to New York Avenue and the boundary streets, such as South Dakota, Florida, West Virginia, and Montana Avenues, Bladensburg Road, Brentwood Road-9th Street-6th Street, Mt. Oliver Road, 17th Street, and more.

The Symposium will be held at the Annex at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, 3515 Earle Place, NE. We're looking for sponsors to provide refreshments and bus services for the tour.

The April 25th event is free and open to the public. Go to GNYAGG.eventbrite.com to register.

The working session/planning meeting on March 19th is open to those that want to work with GNYAGG to make the event a success. Organizations are welcome to co-sponsor the event and can substitute time, effort, and marketing in lieu of financial donations.
