[WardFive] Dumping on Ward 5 : Environmental Justice and Environmental Health Disparities Symposium, December 1st, at the University of Maryland-College Park

Good Morning,

Many will agree that current zoning is one main reason
Ward 5 is dumped on so much. Communities in our Ward and all over the country continue to organize to push back on decisions that lead to an adverse impact on their health and where they live.

The Environmental Justice and Environmental Health Disparities Symposium, December 1st, at the University of Maryland-College Park will bring together communities, researchers and scientist to look at problems and come up with solutions on how race and where you live can adversely impact your health. Several areas that might be of interest to DC communities include the following:
- The Use of Health Impact Assessments (HIA) to Address Negative Land Use Impacts and Improve
Community Sustainability and Quality of Life
- Toxic Chemicals, Vulnerable Populations and Risk
- Traffic
- Chesapeake Bay (Storm Water Run Off)

Never before has there been an opportunity for DC and Maryland to join forces with Johns Hopkins, Univ. of Md, EPA, etc., to get help with addressing health and environmental related issues in our communities.

Hope folk get a chance to attend and use this meeting as a resource to get to solutions! Information from this symposium will provide another tool in the toolbox to help develop and maintain healthy communities.

Check out the attached agenda.
