[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: DCPS Clarification on Spingarn SHS

Hello Jared,

Since you asked, By REDIRECTING the "Career and Technical" Center to various locations is not saying No to "these" Children.  Please stay consistent with "Ward 5 deserves good Schools.

Why would anyone recreate a wheel when we have a school Cluster like this that has the existing amenities that I listed as well as the land availability to include other sports like baseball and swimming.  Other Schools do not have the same Campus style opportunity of Shared resources for Primary, Middle and High School.  That is much more important and viable shared resource for Learning.

If you ask any CEO in the World if they had a choice to pick a school and a school cluster in DC to evolve into a 22nd Century school, I guarantee that the most logical would be this one at Spingarm Location.  Just one amenity of many -- You cannot recreate Land Mass to create the Golf Course availability for our Kids to learn a sport/skill to prepare them for a life long activity.

So while we allow for the Kaya/Mayor to put forth their plans, we will be holding them to the community input part.  You don't have to be a genius to figure out the BEST USE of this Campus. THE MOST EMBARASSING PART OF THIS IS THAT THE MAYOR AND SCHOOL CHANCELLOR CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE THIS OUT -- JUST EMBARASSING!!!

Jared -- Hope you get that not every Black Child is going to be working on the ___________ Trolleys!!  Tell that to your neighbors and you all should really come see me let's have that conversation -- I have some "Jim Crow" thought Clenser that would clear most folks vision up.

Just stand outside of the Trolley's/Car Barn's Shadow and maybe you will see.  Also, I see you posted your picture that I told you you had taken off during our previous conversations.  Nice to see you again.

I think sending so much funding to the school to convert it into a state-of-the-art career and technical center is a wonderful investment. By having it so close to the car barn, DCPS is able to utilize additional resources at no further cost. Sounds like a great way to maximize city investment and funnel additional resources to students, free to them! It's also a great way to protect the school from closing forever or being sold off. What a shame it would be if Ward 5 said no to these kids and insist that the investment go to a different district. Ward 5 deserves good schools and job opportunities!

If we had to choose between education for the modern world that prepares students to work in a blossoming industry, or a pool that they can swim in, I'd say we should push for the former! Athletics play an important and valuable role(s) in high schools, but education must always come first.

We should be pushing for guarantees that this will actually happen!

Please tell me why a serious focus can't be made to make that a Campus for a State of the Art School with feeder systems in place right there.

The initial reports which came out prior to the official announcement were not appropriate. Each school has an individual plan, which can be viewed on the DCPS website. These documents were not made available until after the announcement. The plan for Spingarn is to reopen as a state-of-the-art career and technical center.
