[WardFive] Re: [ward5] DCPS Clarification on Spingarn SHS

Good Morning Ward 5,

 

Why that particular school for that?  Personally, I thinkk that is the gimmick to help sell the Car Barn at that site with a technical training site next door.  Please tell me why a serious focus can't be made to make that a Campus for a State of the Art School with feeder systems in place right there. 

 

1.  Awesome Track and Field / Football field. 

2.  Tennis Courts

3.  Basketball Courts

4.  Golf Course accessibility

5.  Instead of the Car Barn, we can build a Competition Style Swimming facility

6.  Space to build indoor facilities for recreation

7.  Space to build other outdoor sports related spaces like Volley Ball,

8.  Space to build technical school facility and training

 

 

They would not get rid of a facility like this in Ward 3. Our students are not beyond reach.  While this "state-of-the-art career and technical center" sounds "exciting", it seems like we have lots of other places that we can put "career and technical" centers.

It appears that there is some confusion regarding the proposed DCPS consolidation. There are schools which are closing for good, Spingarn is NOT one of them. The initial reports which came out prior to the official announcement were not appropriate. Each school has an individual plan, which can be viewed on the DCPS website. These documents were not made available until after the announcement. The plan for Spingarn is to reopen as a state-of-the-art career and technical center.
