cheat_training_group Are you Ready?

READ EVERYTHING PLEASE

Welcome to Cheat Training!

Just because I am doing Cheat Elite as well doesn't mean I can't cross party lines to torment you all! This season is gearing up to be the best season of Cheat Training ever. The river is at a perfect level and its not too cold, I only saw a few snowflakes at my house today :). We are going to be spending a lot of time doing Chutes Circuits TM and working on our flat water strokes. I have only seen a few people have consistent amazing forward strokes 2 of them are your instructors this year, see if you can tell who they are.

I would like us all to start breaking down bad habits this week so that we can build up good ones for the following 7. This means I would rather not see the following: ruttering (use a bow draw), your top hand falling below your nose during a forward stroke, an abundance of sweep strokes ( try edging and stern draws instead). Lets add combination strokes to your tool box. A few of my favorite are: Bow draw to forward stroke, forward stroke to stern draw, and forward stroke to hanging stern draw (like butter).

If it sounds like I am speaking Slalom Kayaking, don't worry our instructors will introduce strokes to you.

Here is a good video of a buttery forward stroke. Notice that top hand, the torso rotation, and leg movement (it's a little more than you should do, but you should be driving your boat with your legs). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8mKZOfJS1Y

On the paddle up to the Chutes please take at least 20 back strokes in a row.

We are Meeting Wednesday at 5 to go to the river. We will be turning around at Sunset which is 6 so make sure you come earlier rather than later.

For Saturday we will be meeting at the Sycamore island parking area off of Clara Barton to meet up and consolidate cars and drive up to Great Falls, Md. Please be there and ready to get into a car or van at 9 am. If you'd rather you can meet the group at Great Falls, Md at 9:30. Our record to people in the Van is 21 I hope that we can beat that this season…

If you are new to Cheat Training I wrote a little blog post about it awhile back that will help you ease into it. Take a look. https://calleva.org/what-is-cheat-training/
