[WardFive] Pepco Reminds Customers of Cash Grants to Help with Energy Bills

Employees advocate for continued funding for energy assistance at LIHEAP Action Day

Washington, D.C. (March 13, 2018) – Energy assistance is still available in Washington, D.C. and Maryland to help Pepco customers pay for winter energy bills. Through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Pepco customers can receive up to $1,500 in grant support toward their energy bill that they do not have to pay back. Customers must apply during LIHEAP's open period to ensure they can secure their grant while money is still available.

Customers in Washington, D.C. and Maryland can submit LIHEAP applications now to secure their grants. Customers can apply for LIHEAP through Sept. 30, 2018 in Washington, D.C. and June 30, 2018 in Maryland. Washington, D.C. customers can get more information on where to apply for benefits here: https://doee.dc.gov/liheap. Maryland customers should visit: http://www.liheap.us/maryland-heap/.

"We encourage and want to ensure that our customers take advantage of the assistance programs that are offered to assist them in managing their electric bills," said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. "Pepco will continue to advocate at LIHEAP Action Day for continued support of this critical program."

This week, Pepco employees will participate in LIHEAP Action Day, held in Washington, D.C., hosted by the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition. The employees will advocate for policies that protect funding for the LIHEAP program by sharing stories with elected officials and policymakers that demonstrate the program's value to vulnerable households in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

To be eligible for a grant, a customer's annual household income cannot exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines. Each state has determined eligibility guidelines based on household size and income. For example, a family of four in Maryland with an annual household income of $43,050 can qualify for help. While in Washington, D.C., a family of four with an annual household income of $57,965 can qualify for help. Homeowners, renters, roomers and subsidized housing tenants may be eligible. Customers do not have to be behind on their bills to receive a grant.

Maryland's eligibility requirements are as follows:

$21,105 - One-person household
$28,420 - Two-person household
$35,735 - Three-person household
$43,050 - Four-person household

Washington, D.C.'s eligibility requirements are as follows:

$30,142 - One-person household
$39,416 - Two-person household
$48,691 - Three-person household
$57,965 - Four-person household
