Pepco reminds customers on tips to avoid scammers

Pepco has seen an increase in potential scammers calling Pepco customers and falsely claiming their electric or gas service will be disconnected unless payment is made. These impersonators instruct customers to buy a prepaid credit card and call back to a different phone number with the personal identification number (PIN) or other personal information.

Pepco representatives will never call you to ask you for cash or request that you purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on your bill. If you have concerns about the status of your account, call Pepco's Customer Service line at (202) 833-7500.

Customers in D.C. experience improvements in service reliability

Pepco customers in the District of Columbia experienced the fastest restoration times ever, as well as some of the lowest number of electric outages, on average, in the company's history in 2018. During the past five years, the frequency of service interruptions for customers also have decreased 23 percent in the District of Columbia. During the same time, customers in the District were restored 44 minutes faster, on average.

Message on mylar balloon safety

Pepco wants to remind the community of safety concerns regarding mylar balloons. Foil coating found on shiny balloons can cause preventable power outages and possible injury. When these balloons meet power lines or electrical equipment, their metallic properties can cause a surge of electricity that disrupts power and damages equipment.

In fact, untethered balloons cause hundreds of unnecessary service interruptions for our customers each year

Pepco assists furloughed workers during Federal Government Shutdown

Pepco's Customer Advocate team was pleased to be able to provide energy assistance information to customers who received a meal at the pop-up kitchen and café opened by Celebrity Chef José Andrés, and his non-profit organization World Central Kitchen, to feed federal workers and their families during the government shutdown.

Pepco employee resource groups also volunteered their time to provide food to furloughed workers in need. Pepco employee resource groups volunteered their time as well – assisting in providing food to furloughed workers in need. Pepco also provided a $50,000 matching grant to the United Way of the National Capital Area's Emergency Assistance Fund, aiding United Way NCA in serving all of those affected at their regional network of Financial Empowerment Centers (FEC) for individual financial counseling and guidance.
