cheat_training_group Are we there yet?

Tom calls it the "slow, grinding death". The masochists among us just
call it "Sandy to Sycamore". (Happens to be the normal course for the
50+ year old Potomac Downriver Race in May, too!)

As you paddle, you are pretty much thinking "Are we #*%#ing there
yet?" And when you get to one of the usual break points, you wonder
'How long was that?" and "How much further?" With the help of Google
maps, here's an approximation of the distances from S-Turn to the
Sycamore Island inlet.

S-Turn             .00 miles
Maryland Chute    1.48 miles
Skull Island      1.71 miles
Anglers           1.87 miles
Yellow Falls      3.05 miles
Stubblefield      3.98 miles
I495 Bridge       4.84 miles
Sycamore Island   7.38 miles

As another way of thinking about it, the traditional stops are around
Anglers, the I495 Bridge and Sycamore...which makes the first leg
about 2 miles, the second leg about 3 miles and the last about 2.5
miles.

See --- it's not really that far. Just wait until we do the attain!
Really.

JOHN

P.S, The Cheat is almost 10 miles --- but has enough current at any level to seem faster than the Potomac.
